Reston, VA - May 29, 2007
With the help of Applied Information Sciences, Inc. (AIS), a leading Microsoft Managed Gold Partner, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 has been successfully tested against the DoD 5015.2 records management standard by the Department of Defense Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC).
As part of their commitment to pursue compliance standards in the industry, Microsoft selected AIS to help develop and extend MOSS 2007 to include the DoD 5015.2 records management certification. Microsoft teamed with AIS because of their deep knowledge of the DoD 5015.2 certification requirements and their 25 years of professional software engineering expertise.
"AIS's reputation and track record in the field of software engineering gave us every confidence in choosing them as a partner to co-develop and test this important new capability," said Rob Barker, Sr. Program Manager, Information Worker Product Marketing Group at Microsoft.
Development of the DoD 5015.2 certification add-on pack was made possible by the ease of connecting and extending the rich features and functionality of SharePoint 2007 to meet the complex requirements for DoD 5015.2 compliance. AIS was able to develop every aspect of the solution using the standard SharePoint extensibility points - like the SharePoint Object Model and SharePoint Workflows - along with native SharePoint 2007 capabilities.
"This is a great example of how we can leverage MOSS 2007 as an application platform for building rich web-based business applications for our customers," said Russ Stalters, CTO of Portals and Collaboration at AIS.
Managed by the Joint Interoperability Test Command of the United States Department of Defense, the DoD 5015.2 Standard is a well-known industry standard that sets the bar for records management applications in the enterprise content management (ECM) industry. The standard offers guidelines for how records and permissions should be managed, the automation of periodic review of vital records, the management of e-mail as records, and the ability to support multi-phase lifecycle management for documents that require more-complex retention rules. When choosing a records management solution, many companies and other organizations in highly-regulated industries will only consider a DoD 5015.2 certified solution.
