News:AIS is The First Azure Government Managed Service Provider

Wednesday, January 28, 2015, Reston, VA – AIS is the first Microsoft Partner to achieve AZURE GOVERNMENT MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDER (MSP) status. AIS completed the application submission, review, approval and execution of several contracts to reach this status.  AIS may now bundle AZURE GOVERNMENT services with AIS Service Offerings and Product for a complete turnkey managed service offering.

AZURE GOVERNMENT reached general availability early in December of 2014.  AIS was among the initial Microsoft Partners invited to participate in the PRIVATE PREVIEW which started in April of 2014 and was followed by the PUBLIC PREVIEW which started in August of 2014.  Along the way, AIS was recognized as providing among the highest levels of AZURE consumption and/or utilization during the preview period.  AIS implemented a number of development and testing (DEVTEST) environments that it performs for its US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT clients.

The Microsoft AZURE GOVERNMENT Cloud delivers cloud speed, scale, and economics while addressing the security and compliance needs of U.S. federal agencies including the Department of Defense, plus state and local governments and their solutions providers. Azure Government offers physical and network isolation from non-U.S. government deployments and requires specialized personnel screening. Azure Government will address government regulatory and compliance requirements such as FedRAMP, FISMA, ITAR, CJIS, HIPAA and DoD Impact Levels 1-5.

“Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, often relates the fact that Microsoft is a partner led ecosystem”, said Tom O’Connell, AIS president.  “For example, during his Keynote Address at the Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) last summer, he shared that perspective again and again.  He also shared that to truly capitalize on Azure and offer transformative solutions, partners may need to embrace new business models.  This MSP program is exactly one of the business model changes he was speaking to.  Partners such as AIS are moving to managed services offerings and full product offerings bundled with Azure to reduce overall risk, liability and costs for their clients.  It also provides a means for us to offer a truly differentiated solution.

“We are seeing tremendous update and enthusiasm from our partner community around the promise and potential for Microsoft Cloud for Government,” said Vince Menzione, General Manager of Microsoft’s U.S. Public Sector Partner business.  “Already more than 125 partners have committed to building on the Microsoft Cloud for Government, from public safety-focused partners who need specific CJIS support for managing drastic increases in storage to large system integrators developing hybrid solutions to more seamlessly help government agencies move to the cloud.“

“AIS is thrilled to see the commitment Microsoft is making to our public sector clients.  The full depth and breadth of public Azure will be available with the security and compliance our client’s require”, said Lance Luttschwager, AIS Federal Practice Manager.  “AIS has been committed to the Azure platform from the beginning when the product was first announced in 2010.  Since that time AIS has achieved a great deal of experience through engagements with more than 30 clients, building and deploying more systems in Azure than most.  This experience positions AIS well for Azure Government. We have a number of Cloud Service Offerings to help our clients take their first steps into the cloud as well as a number of repeatable solutions.”

“From our perspective, Microsoft Azure offers the most complete, comprehensive solution for cloud services today”, said Vishwas Lele, AIS Chief Technology Officer. “Microsoft was already the leader in SAAS with their market leading O365 platform with CRM Online and SharePoint Online. Microsoft has very quickly reached a high degree of feature parity with even the most advanced IAAS solutions.  Their hybrid on-prem to IAAS integration truly sets them apart from all other vendors.  While IAAS offers a great degree of efficiency and cost avoidance, there isn’t much transformative about hosting virtual workload in a public cloud versus hosting on your own platforms.  It’s the 300 plus Azure PAAS services that Microsoft offers that allows firms like AIS to envision and deliver truly transformative solutions.”
